The traditional Chinese painting is mainly combined with calligraphy and poetry that what we called “书诗画”, that is, the combination of three elements where the calligraphy and poem are bond together so that it creates a resonate with painting. Therefore, calligraphy, poetry and painting have become one spiritually embedded with three entities, or we call it “The Trinity of Art”, so that Chinese painting reaches the highest art realm. For example, artist Law Yuen’s painting “惊见秋景美- I am delighted to see the beauty of autumn scenery” combines Chinese calligraphy and poetry (后院落叶飘、惊见秋景美 — Falling leaves in the backyard, amazed at the beauty of autumn scenery. ) Here we can see that the bonding of calligraphy and poetry creates a resonance with painting. In other words, the three entities are binding together, which is what we call “The Trinity of Art”, making Chinese painting reach the highest state of art realm.
