The traditional Chinese painting mainly combines calligraphy and poetry, which is what we call “书诗画- calligraphy, poetry and painting”. Calligraphy fuses with poetry and resonates with painting. Therefore, calligraphy, poetry, and painting are spiritually integrated with three elements in one body, that means the Chinese traditional painting is a trinity art, so that Chinese painting can reach the highest artistic state. For example, the painting “ Two Loyal Horses (两匹忠诚的马)” by artist, Law Yuen, combined with Chinese calligraphy and poem “馬萧萧, 蹄噠噠, 忠耿耿- In the artist’s poem, the first sentence describes the sound of a horses, the second sentence describes the sound of horses’ shoes, and the third sentence praises the loyalty of horses”. Here we can imagine that the fusion of calligraphy and poetry resonates with Chinese painting that we seems to hear the horses’ calling sounds and running noise searching their masters, and amazed their loyalty. In other words, the combination of the three elements: Chinese calligraphy, poem, and painting, in one body, means the Chinese painting is a trinity art, making Chinese painting reach the highest state of art realm.
